Culture & Food
The culture here is a rich tapestry of African and Indigenous heritage that comes through in every kitchen and every drumbeat.
The Pacific Kitchen: Nuquí’s food is pure, fresh, and local. Here, the 'matronas' (traditional cooks) turn the catch of the day into works of art. You must try out the coconut rice, fish in coconut milk, or the famous 'piangua' empanadas. Everything is seasoned with 'herbs of the roof' (local herbs like cimarron cilantro) that women grow in their own backyards.
The Rhythm of the Land: As the sun goes down, the sound of the marimba and the cununos (drums) starts to vibrate. The Currulao is the dance that tells the story of this people’s freedom.
